Week 9
This week we started learning about owls as the students will be dissecting owl pellets soon! Owls are my favorite animals, so this was a very fun week for me. On Monday, we did an Arthub with an owl drawing that the kids labeled. On Tuesday, I got to read and discuss the book Owls by Gail Gibbons with the students. Gail Gibbons is an author I remember from my childhood, and Mrs. Carlson told me I should remember it once I become a teacher. Gail Gibbon's books are full of incredible, extremely detailed illustrations in addition tons of interesting, engaging information about the given topic. On Wednesday, we worked on poetry. Now with the microphones, the students would take turns reading poems from their poetry books into the microphone. We also added two new poems to the poetry books. Poetry has become one of my favorite activities in my time at Hubbell. It is so fun to hear the students singing the poems together and seeing how excited they get when Mrs. Carlson says to turn to their favorite poem. On Thursday, we did vocabulary practice, where the students are given a word and its definition and have to write a sentence that uses the word and draw an accompanying picture. One of the words we did was "frittata", which I thought was a fun one.

Why do you think the owl pellet activity is so successful?
