Week 4

We started this week off learning new vocabulary words. From the book Crickwing by Janelle Cannon, Mrs. Carlson selected 6 new words for the students learn. After she read the book, she went back into the book to find each word and asked the students what they thought the word might mean based on the context. Then, I would find the book in the dictionary and read the real definition aloud. On Tuesday, for the last day of Black History Month, we went to the gym where we listened to guest speakers. Then, the whole school went outside with signs made by the students to go on our "Dream Walk". The students held their signs as they walked around Hubbell and Roosevelt and back. On Wednesday, we did another vocabulary activity where the students were given a vocabulary word and its definition and then asked to write an example sentence and draw a picture. Wednesday was also pajama and stuffed animal day, so that was fun! On Thursday, we went to library a day early and I read with some students in the hallway. On Friday, we went on a field trip! We went to the Civic Center to see musical duo "1, 2, 3, Andres". The show consisted of songs sung in Spanish, English, and Sign Language. I feel so lucky that I have been able to learn Spanish in school my whole life, and I think it is such a great opportunity for kids to have. I loved how the show incorporated vocabulary from 3 different languages in a way that was so engaging for the students.

  1. Same question I asked from last week - what can you see yourself using in your future classroom that you observed this week?
